General Repair Work Our labour prices are based on £22 per hour plus VAT, although we have standard prices for most of the common jobs that we are asked to do to make it easier to give estimates. A list of these prices is available in the shops. While you wait free of charge bike check-over. We are happy to do a check-over of your bike, assess its general condition and make recommendations for repair and service work required at any time. We can then book it in for specific repairs if needed, or, if a bike is showings signs of wear or has been generally neglected, it may be more economical to book it in for a general service. Our Service prices are as follows: Basic Service - priced job by job, but typically £20 to £30 First Service on new bike - FOC on bikes bought from us, otherwise typically £25 Full Service - £39 plus parts. (Up to a 2 hours workshop time: Adjustments to gears, brakes and bearings. Replacement of brake pads, brake and gear cables where necessary. Check for tightness on other components and fitted accessories. Pump tyres & lube where required) Major Parts Service - £55 plus parts (up to 3 hours workshop time: as above plus replacement of wheels, transmission components and/or major bearings as required) We usually book in bikes on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, with a turn-around time of between half a day and two days, depending on how busy we are (occasionally longer if parts have to be ordered in). We will ask you for a daytime contact number in case of any complications and will give you a time for collection and collection ticket when you drop off your bike. Please Note: We don’t usually call to say that the bike is ready – only if it’s not going to be ready at the time given. If a bike is clearly unsafe to ride and the customer does not want us to do the work required to make it safe, we may refuse to work on it. Free First Service (on new bikes bought from us) Customers who buy a new bike from us are asked to bring the bike back after 2–4 weeks for its after-sale check. This is carried out by our regular mechanics in the workshop so we need to be able to book the bike in to go through with the repair jobs. If you live outside Oxford and are having to make a trip in to Oxford especially to get your first service done, please phone in advance to pre-book a workshop slot. (Who says we don’t respond to customers feedback ?!). If a new bike is only getting occasional use then it is sensible to leave it a little longer before bringing it in for its first service. Storage Charges We have limited storage space in both shops and sometimes have to turn away work when we are full. If repair jobs are collected on time we can run more efficiently and that helps to keep our charges lower. We therfore reserve the right to charge storage at the rate of £2 per day for bikes left with us after the agreed date for collection. In an extreme case, if a bike is left with us for a very long period of time after the collection date we may sell it to re-coup some of the storage charge, or otherwise dispose of it. Please call us to discuss it if you are having problems getting in to collect your bike - we will be more flexible if you talk to us. |
